February 27, 2015

At 04:30 AM, Friday morning, the company was alerted to the 500 block of Walnut Street for a house fire. The Wagon responded with 8 and both rescues following shortly after. Chief 41 arrived with smoke showing. The wagon arrived shortly after, split laying from Hellam Street. Crews stretched a line into the home and encountered heavy smoke and moderate heat on the first floor. Soon becoming evident of a basement fire. With no outside access visible, crews located the basement door and attempted to make a push. Crews were eventually forced to retreat from the basement and first floor due to a well advanced fire. Crews worked with mutual aid departments to control the fire exteriorly until the bulk of the fire was knocked down. Company 41 cleared the scene in the late morning hours. Our thoughts are with the family during their time of need.

Although the family lost a great deal of personal items, and the home was severely damaged in this fire... Most importantly lives were spared. The family was alerted to the fire by functioning smoke alarms inside the residence. We continue to stress the importance of having working alarms throughout the home. Not only to save lives, but this will also quicken our response to be able to control the fire.

The fire department has smoke alarms available for residents at the Station. We can also come out and install or assist you with any questions you may have regarding your alarms. Any questions can be directed to Chief Chad Livelsberger by calling 717-252-4770.
