At 1800 hours, members headed to the Susquehanna River at John Wright for some basic water rescue training led by Lieutenant Brown and Firefighter Oberdorff.

As we are close to the river, we are often the first ones to the shore during a water rescue or boating incident call. Although we do not have a boat, we often are relied upon to be the eyes and ears of the rescue boats and the incident commander during a water rescue incident.

We often arrive and are quickly able to assess the situation and direct the crews from Lancaster County to the victims on the water.

Members reviewed basic skills including scene safety, types of personal floatation devices, and correct use of these devices.

Crews then went over shore based rescue skills including the use of throw bags and the proper techniques to effectively reach a victim in the water with the rope bags.
