Just before 0030 this morning the Rescue Company was dispatched along with our sister company Hellam Fire Company (21) for a Vehicle Accident with Entrapment on Route 30 westbound just prior to the Hellam exit. Chief 21 (Strittmatter) arrived on scene to find a rear-end collision with a pickup truck wedged underneath the back of a tow truck, confirming heavy entrapment in the driver's compartment. Chief 41 arrived and assumed the extrication sector with Chief 21 establishing the Route 30 command. Rescues 41-2 and 41-1 arrived and went to work removing the roof and doors of the pickup truck, Engine 21 pulled and charged their bumper line for fire suppression. Engine 89-1 set up a landing zone on the highway just west of the scene to land STAT MedEvac. Mutual aid Rescues from 38 (Yorkana Fire Company), LC79 (Maytown-East Donegal Township Fire Department), and 89 (York Area United Fire and Rescue) assisted with lifting the tow truck with Paratech struts to enable for a dash jack/push to free the driver. The patient was extricated 39 minutes after the first arriving unit and air lifted to the local trauma center.

A big thank you to the mutual aid departments, including the EMS units and Police, as well as the multiple Fire Police units for keeping us safe during a successful rescue operation.
