Over the course of the class, students reviewed soil information/calculations, the dangers of trenches, multiple case studies of local trench rescue incidents, shoring for multiple types of trenches, victim extraction, lifting heavy objects within a trench, patient care tactics, and a multitude of other topics. Students started the week at Lancaster County Public Safety Center for the classroom portion of the course, as well as using the simulated trench on the campus. The last 2 days of the course were spent at Capital Region Water where a live trench was dug for students to further learn skills in a real world setting. Students performed various scenarios and methods while working in a live trench.

In the next three weeks, the students will be completing their ProBoard testing for Trench Rescue Technician.

Thank you to the various instructors from DLA Professional Firefighters Association IAFF F-221, Harrisburg Bureau of Fire, Lancaster City Bureau of Fire, and other agencies for great instruction and knowledge. We would also like to thank the South Central Task Force for the invitation and opportunity for our members to attend this course.
