Meaning that in exchange for free living at the firehouse, volunteer firemen provide 48 hours of availability weekly to staffing & handling the day-to-day operations of the Department, while maintaining part time employment or higher education.

•In 2018- WFD placed minimum available staffing requirements in place. This means that the firehouse should be staffed at minimum with 3 qualified firemen (volunteers) 24/7/365. Our Duty Officers (Lt’s) are responsible for coordinating weekly staffing & availability of our firemen. Since 2018 we have had a 98.6% success rate with this program.

•The WFD average response time has been less than 2 minutes for the last 8 consecutive years, handling over 800 responses annually.

•In 2023- The WFD added 5 additional beds & private rooms. The Department is now able to accommodate 12 live-in & sleep-in staffing firemen.

•Of our 36 active firemen, only 10 reside within Wrightsville Borough. 9 reside at the firehouse and the remaining 17 are staffing members.

•Our staffing members are members that travel to Wrightsville from outside of our response area. We have staffing members from the states of PA, MD, DE, NY, NJ that will come to Wrightsville for a minimum of 4 hour time blocks, spend the day or spend the weekend staffing the Department responding to incidents & training.

How & why Wrightsville? We get that question A LOT! Why do people drive 3+ hours to ride fire trucks for free. This is why…We believe in doing the right thing all of the time, whether it be in the firehouse or on the street. That culture permeates throughout the membership from the brass down and you end up with a group of motivated firemen who want nothing more than to work hard, train hard & go to fires.
