•12-6-08 - Hellam Township Fire Departments Support Make A Wish Child•

Today at 13:00, members of the Wrightsville Fire Department along with Sparky the Fire Dog traveled to Hellam Station 21 to meet a special little girl named Rylee Dorer and her family.

Rylee Dorer is six years old, just started first grade, and has T-cell lymphoma, a form of cancer that originates in the lymphatic system.  Her parents, Amanda and Shannon of Delta, PA learned of their daughter's illness last October and have spent the past year helping her get through treatments.  Amanda Dorer took Rylee to a pediatrician when she noticed her daughter just wasn't herself.  When a course of antibiotics didn't eliminate Rylee's health issues, more tests were run.  Doctors found a mass had developed within Rylee's chest wall.  The mass was crushing her heart and esophagus.  That October evening Rylee was checked into Hershey Medical Center.  Treatment continues monthly until January 2010 when the family hopes to hear "remission."  Rylee is one of three Dorer children.

After meeting everybody at Station 21, the children were escorted by Hellam and Wrightsville Fire Departments along with Ambulance 41, and the Hellam Township Police Department with lights and sirens on to the Tourist Inn where a special benefit was held.
