Station 41 Crews, Unaware of the LONG day that lied ahead, were awaken for an Engine
Company transfer to Station 44's quarters at 03:36. Engine 41 responded
within 2 minutes with a crew of 9, with Lt. Russ in the seat. Station
44 was on location with a working woods fire. Engine 41 was released
at 05:38. While most were still up from the first run, Station 41 was due to respond at 07:35 to Kreutz Creek Rd. in Hellam Township for an auto accident, involving a school van. Rescue 2, and Car 41 responded within the minute with a total crew of 9. Attack 21/Capt. 21 was on location with a school van with 6 patients wanting transport. Rescue crew stood-by until BLS transported patients. 41 units were available at 08:15. Shortly after 15:00hrs, Engine 41 was alerted for the 2nd alarm assignment to assist the Columbia brothers with a row home fire on the 200 block of Perry St. Engine 41 went enroute with Lt. 41 Russ in the seat with 8. Engine 41 was assigned to the hydrant at 2nd and Perry St., crews immediatly assisted with fire attack until a MAYDAY was called for over the radio, and the evacuation tones were struck. "Firefighter down" was transmitted on the roof. The Rapid Intervention Team from Maytown 7-9 split to remove firefighters from the roof and attempt to gain entry to locate downed firefighters inside. A crew which entered from the rear, reported firefighters self extricated themselves. 41 crews then assited in master stream operations until bulk of fire was knocked out, and overhaul could be started. Engine returned to the 41 house approximately 20:45hrs. Although the fire had a good head start, the 41 house would like to commend all the Columbia brothers and assisting companies on a job well done. At 18:00 hours, Rescue 2 was due to respond to Lancaster Station 7-9 for a Rescue Company Transfer. Rescue 2 responded within a minute, AC Livelsberger in the seat. Rescue 2 was available at 20:30. At 18:42, with all 41 units on other incidents, we were dispatched to respond to Rt. 30 in Hellam Township for an overturned vehicle. Rescue 42 and Engine 44-2 responded in place of 41 equipment. After returning available from the structure fire, Station 41 was to standby in quarters for Columbia's fire departments. 41's LONG day ended about 20 hours later.
