Because a portion of Hellam Township is in the 10-Mile radius of Three Mile Island,
crews from Hellam and Wrightsville, as well as local EMS providers and Police
Departments participated in a once every two year exercise in which local municipality
officials and emergency workers are evaluated in thier approach to handling
an incident involving the Middletown, Pennsylvania nuclear power plant. The drill is evaluated by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal Emergency Managment Agency. While attending the drill, the 21-25 box was struck for a vehicle accident on Codorus Furnace road in Hellam Township. Both Rescues and the Command out of 41 responded in one minute with a crew of 15. Chief 21 arrived on the scene with 1 vehicle overturned, 1 subject in police custody. Crews from 21 and 41 cleared debris from the roadway and returned available in 40 minutes. |
